In a land-scarce state like Singapore, where density of buildings is high, designing the right building is crucial. But what is even more important, is the execution of the plan, requiring harmony between all those involved, from architects to contractors and workers. What starts out as an idea for an architect only finds purpose when no one fails in the team, and a space is created for everyone to connect and enjoy for posterity.
As a Principal and Director of Safdie Architect’s Singapore, Charu leads the firms efforts in Singapore. She successfully translates the firm’s design philosophy into practice during the construction phase ensuring a balance of design goals, quality construction and budget and delivery schedule of each project. Charu has overseen the construction of several iconic and complex projects – Jewel Changi Airport; Marina Bay Sands, Sky Habitat etc. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
