Dr Kourosh Kayvani, Managing Director at – Design, Innovation & Eminence at Aurecon, has delivered a TEDx talk in Hanoi calling for more fearless, human-centred engineers to help fix humanity’s ‘wicked problems’.
Titled ‘Engineers are Today’s Fairy Godmothers’, Dr Kayvani’s 15min speech was delivered to more than 400 Vietnamese and international guests at the United Nations International School as part of a one day event around ‘building global communities’.
Kourosh spoke about the stereotypes associated with traditional engineers and the critical need for today’s engineers to possess strong communication skills and emotional intelligence as the problems our world face become increasingly complex.
He also discussed a case study involving redesign of the Hazelwood Power station in Australia, where options ranging from a water theme park to a solar farm were floated to replace a disused power station, reinforcing the critical effect that engineer’s decisions can have on people’s lives.
