In the World Around Summit event, held at the Guggenheim Museum, MVRDV’s Founding Partner, Winy Maas, gives a personal tour of the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen. The project, the world’s first fully accessible art depot, features exhibition halls, a rooftop garden, and a restaurant, in addition to an enormous amount of storage space for art and design.
The assignment was to offer a glimpse behind the scenes of the Boijmans Museum in Rotterdam and make the whole art collection accessible to the public. The design and reflective round volume of the structure respond to its surroundings. In this video, Winy Maas explores the project, recorded at the Depot itself, and gives viewers unparalleled and unique access into the design and building of this reflective glass icon.
