Recently, Tianjin NorthGlass completed the supply of double SGP laminated high performance coated alien insulating glass for the Lusail Towers in Qatar. The skyscraper is located near the Lusail Stadium and was built for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Each of the four skyscrapers has an oval facade, rising with the distortion of the structure, which gives an impression of asymmetry. The rotation starts from the bottom of the building. In order to match the structure and ensure the highest safety standards, NorthGlass developed a new curved tempered forming technology which allowed for control of the arc accuracy deviation within about 1mm and edge arc curve within 0.5mm.
This innovation and optimization of the coating process for precise flexible strip cutting, and use of butyl glue, improved and ensured the product performance. Glass research and production at its finest.
Due to the tight construction period and high processing difficulty, the project spurred on high requirements for cooperation between the R&D Department, the Engineering Department and the Production Department of NorthGlass. Tianjin NorthGlass organized a special project team to ensure the cooperation between the teams was efficient and productive.
They completed all the glass processing and went to Qatar in just two months. After installation, the combination of 92 pieces of alien glass formed the starting point of the spiral curtain wall system, which curves vertically towards the clouds, forming a unique and inspiring structure fit for the upcoming World Cup and gravitas of such an event.
The four skyscrapers in Lusail Towers are the headquarters of Qatar National Bank, Qatar Central Bank, Qatar Investment Authority, and Qatari Diar. The project covers 1.1 million-square-meters and is located at the end of the tree-lined main road, successfully connecting the newly completed football stadium with the coastal area. The architect fully considered local sunlight and applied ocean-grade aluminum package in the design. Outspread outlines surrounding the building block direct sunlight while retaining a good view and ample light.
The ice ribbon glass became the focus of global attention and also the subject of media coverage for the Beijing Winter Olympics. The next big event, the FIFA World Cup – Qatar 2022 will be part of history, as will this project. The “green city” in the desert will open to the world, and Lusail Towers will become another focal point of the world. When this happens, the globe will look at Lusail and find NorthGlass.
