The design team for One Manhattan West has been recognised with several honours in 2020 for state of the art design and innovation in engineering and construction by the AIA New York and the Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI).
The 67-storey tower, designed by architecture firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill with James Corner Field Operations opened in October 2019 as part of Brookfield Properties’ Manhattan West Development.
The latest are three honours from the AEI of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Professional Project Awards including Best Overall Project, recognising outstanding achievements in design and construction of high performance buildings.
Another announced earlier this year was an Architecture Merit Award from AIA New York’s 2020 Design Awards for outstanding architectural design.
Further recognition includes:
– Excellence Award in Architectural Engineering Integration (AEI)
– Merit for Structural Systems Design (AEI)
One Manhattan West, a “graceful addition to the New York City skyline”, navigated difficult site conditions – constructed over underground train tracks – to “express a slender and elegant simplicity above.” The use of curved glass offers a gentle inflection and rounded corners – giving the tower a characteristic minimalism.
The entrance lobby, with large curved glass panels up to 16 feet in height, is an open space with continuity to the public entrance plaza.
An energy efficient, solar control coating in the curved glass assembly contributes to the building’s LEED Gold certification.
Congratulations to the design team.
